FAQs

Ready to get electric?

SEAT currently has 3 different types of electric car within its range. Find out more about them here so you can choose one that’s right for you.

  • eTSI (mHEV – Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle) uses a smaller battery and a motor-generator that assists in creating electricity and boosting the petrol engine’s output. Though mild hybrid vehicles are not able to operate solely on electric (like e-HYBRID or fully electric vehicles can), they are able to reduce fuel consumption while boosting performance. A mild hybrid’s fuel source is gasoline, so their driving range is the same as, or even better than other petrol-fuelled vehicles.
  • e-HYBRID (PHEV – Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) combines the capabilities of a combustion-engine with those of a full-electric vehicle. An e-Hybrid can run solely on electricity, so when fully powered up, you can drive approximately 60km on stored battery energy. The vehicle can also function as a normal hybrid so you can drive using the petrol motor in combination with electric propulsion. On shorter trips or daily commutes, you can select a driver profile which lets you run the e-HYBRID like a fully electric vehicle.
  • Charging your e-HYBRID reduces fuel use and allows you to access restricted urban zones while enjoying reduced consumption. The e-HYBRID also regenerates battery power when braking which helps to extend battery range. Unlike a fully electric vehicle, the e-HYBRID can revert to regular hybrid operation once its electric range is depleted: letting you drive worry-free over longer distances thanks to the ICE engine (e.g. petrol, diesel).
  • Electric Vehicles (BEV - Battery Electric Vehicles) have no gasoline engine and are therefore 100% fully electric all the time. SEAT BEVs give you hundreds of kilometres in one single charge (the new SEAT Mii electric has a range of 260km), so when considering that the average distance driven per day by EU drivers is 60km, the SEAT BEV certainly does not need recharging daily. To recharge BEVs you must plug into an electrical outlet or charging station (wallbox). Depending on the type of charger used, a full battery can take anything from 50 minutes up to 6 or 7 hours. EVs are zero-emission, meaning you can drive in the most environmentally friendly way possible.

Going electric means looking ahead. A more eco-friendly, comfortable way to get around and with lots of other advantages too.

  • Increased comfort – with fewer vibrations, everyone who drives an EV for the first-time notices just how silent and smooth the ride is. As EVs (and PHEVs in electric profile) are powered by electricity you can drive quietly: with less engine vibration, which increases your overall sense of comfort.
  • Soft, fluid driving – All SEAT electric cars give you automatic performance, so you can navigate your journey fluidly without having to switch gears. Also, only having to use two pedals: to accelerate and brake, increases comfort and manoeuvrability to make driving in urban spaces a dream. Additionally, the cost of maintenance is kept to a minimum as components that often suffer wear and tear, like the clutch in a manual car, no longer need to be maintained.
  • Surprising push – Electric cars have a surprisingly powerful character. With increased responsiveness and immediacy, today’s electrics are snappy when it comes to acceleration and power. As soon as you hit accelerate, an electric car gives you immediate and instant torque, meaning you can feel the engine’s power right away. The availability of different driving modes allows you to modify your driving preferences, meaning that you can select a profile that is right for your current journey: prioritise smoothness and speed or when necessary choose a low energy consumption mode.
  • Different driving modes – The availability of different driving modes means that you can select a profile that is right for your given journey: prioritise smoothness and speed or when necessary choose a low energy consumption mode.  An electric engine offers greater versatility than a combustion one. Both the Mii electric and the Leon e-HYBRID have various driving modes: allowing for a customised driving experience while helping you get the best out of your car’s engine and battery
  • Recharge while braking - Regenerative braking helps to power up your electric car’s battery on route by using braking friction. This subsequently helps to increase overall efficiency in a way that standard combustion engines are incapable of. The use of regenerative brakes also means that less wear and tear is exacted on the disc brakes, so less maintenance is needed in the long term
  • Sustainable and friendly driving – Because of their smooth, silent and more fluid mechanics, electric cars have a positive impact on our driving habits: pushing us to adopt a more ecological, civilized and friendly approach to car travel in terms of autonomy, time and charging infrastructure. They also allow you to take advantage of access to urban and city centre zones which are often restricted to electric-only vehicles.

You can power up your electric car at home, at your destination or during your trip.

  • At home, our SEAT Chargers (Wallbox) power up your electric car in just 4 hours*. We have 3 SEAT charger types available to suit your needs: all of which are compatible with future SEAT electric cars. The SEAT Charger is perfect if you just want to plug in and charge (without remote functionality) whereas the SEAT Charger Connect and SEAT Charger Pro both include Wi-Fi connection so you can manage the charging process remotely. The SEAT Charger Pro even has an electricity meter: helping you to precisely monitor energy use, and an ethernet connection: in case you also prefer a hardwired internet connection. We’ll take care of installation, warranty and customer care to ensure that getting your SEAT Charger set up at home is a straightforward and lasting, easy process.

    *Depending on installation type
  • On the road. You can charge your car at thousands of stations within the public network. With around 225,000 points throughout Europe alone, recharging outside your home could not be easier. You can also find fast-charging options available that will power up your electric car as quick as possible.

Our electric cars allow you to travel hundreds of kilometres on a single charge (the new SEAT Mii electric has a combined range of 260km*), so when considering that the average distance driven per day by EU drivers is 60km, the SEAT Mii electric certainly does not need recharging on a daily basis. At an average of 60km a day you would need to recharge the SEAT Mii electric every 4 – 5 days. Also, if you are doing your driving within the city remember that the range increases to around 360km, so you would need to recharge less frequently.

To enjoy the full benefits of an e-Hybrid it is a good idea to power up every day. But if for some reason you forget to recharge, it will continue to run as a conventional hybrid: using additional energy from regenerative braking. This gives you greater efficiency than a standard combustion engine.

*WLTP range of up to 259 km with combined city & roadway driving and up to 358 km with 100% city driving.

The right kind of electric car depends on your needs and everyday requirements. Will you be using your car mainly for urban travel: to and from work? In this case, a fully Electric Vehicle (BEV), like the SEAT Mii electric, would give you full access to urban zones while keeping consumptions costs to an absolute minimum. If you want to travel longer distances (especially outside of urban centres) an e-HYBRID (PHEV – Plugin Hybrid Electric Vehicle) would perhaps be a better option.

e-HYBRID technology (PHEV - Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) acts as a bridge between combustion and fully electric cars. This technology is an ideal choice for users who aren’t quite ready to go for a purely electric car yet. Offering the advantages of an electric car, but with the peace of mind that comes from a traditional combustion engine.

If you only need to travel short distances or use your car mostly within the city or in the outskirts, an electric, such as the Mii electric, would be the best option. Offering a 260 km range (and up to 360 km with 100% use in the city), it allows you to move within urban centres without any kind of restriction.

Thanks to the increased sustainability offered by both BEV and PHEV vehicles, and the reduced environmental impact in which they have, many governments have started to promote their usage by creating various subsidies for electric car users. These subsidies often come in the form of direct discounts at the point of purchase, TAX exemptions, and subventions for home chargers (Wallboxes), as well as other associated economic benefits such as free access on toll roads and free parking spaces etc.

Many cities are creating restricted zones to limit, or in some cases prohibit, combustion vehicles from entering. In such zones the use of either an e-Hybrid (like the SEAT Leon e-Hybrid, driven in electric mode to allow for a 60km range*) or a fully electric vehicle (such as the Mii electric) are able to drive freely as they emit zero CO2 emissions and do not contribute to air contamination within the city.
